Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bambuterol is a long-acting beta2-adrenoceptor agonist (LABA) used primarily for the management of asthma and other lung diseases associated with bronchospasm. It is an oral prodrug of terbutaline and acts by selectively stimulating beta2-adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, leading to muscle relaxation and bronchodilation. This results in widened airways and relief from symptoms such as wheezing and breathlessness. In addition to its bronchodilator effect, bambuterol also acts as a cholinesterase inhibitor. It is not suitable for acute symptom relief but is indicated for long-term maintenance therapy in conditions like asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema[1][2][3][5][6].
