Overview

Bamlanivimab + etesevimab is a combination of two monoclonal antibodies, bamlanivimab and etesevimab, administered together via intravenous infusion. Both antibodies specifically target the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19. By binding to distinct but overlapping epitopes on the spike protein’s receptor-binding domain (RBD), they block viral attachment and entry into human cells. This combination was developed primarily for the treatment and post-exposure prophylaxis of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in high-risk individuals. The regimen was authorized under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in several countries but its use has been limited or revoked due to reduced efficacy against certain SARS-CoV-2 variants such as Omicron[1][5][7].
