Banxia Xiexin Decoction

Banxia Xiexin Decoction is a classical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula first recorded in the 2nd century in the text *Shanghan Lun*. It consists of seven herbs including Pinellia (Ban Xia), Scutellaria (Huang Qin), Coptis (Huang Lian), dried ginger (Gan Jiang), jujube (Da Zao), Codonopsis (Dang Shen), and licorice root (Zhi Gan Cao). The formula is designed to harmonize stomach and intestinal function by clearing stomach heat and warming intestinal cold, drying spleen dampness, restoring digestive qi flow, and addressing symptoms such as epigastric fullness, discomfort, restlessness, or insomnia. It is traditionally used for gastrointestinal inflammatory syndromes including chronic atrophic gastritis, ulcerative colitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Helicobacter pylori infection.
