Overview

Baobab oil is a natural lipid extract derived from the seeds of the African baobab tree (*Adansonia digitata*). It is rich in essential fatty acids, including palmitic, oleic, and linoleic acids, as well as vitamins and antioxidants. In traditional medicine, it is utilized for its antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Clinically, it has been investigated as an intravesical treatment to manage lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in patients receiving BCG therapy for bladder cancer, where it is thought to regenerate epithelial tissue and improve bladder wall elasticity. Additionally, it is widely used in dermatology to promote skin barrier function and wound healing, though crude versions may contain potentially harmful cyclopropenoid fatty acids that require refining through heat.
