Overview
Baofukang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation, typically formulated as a vaginal suppository, used for the treatment of human papillomavirus (HPV) infections and various types of vaginitis. Its primary active components are Zedoary Turmeric Oil (derived from *Curcuma phaeocaulis*) and Borneol. Baofukang is described as having "estrogen-like" effects, which help to increase vaginal glycogen levels and improve the health of the vaginal mucosa. This action promotes the growth of beneficial Lactobacillus species, thereby restoring a healthy vaginal microenvironment that facilitates the clearance of persistent high-risk HPV (hr-HPV). Additionally, the drug exhibits direct antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal properties. It is frequently studied and used in clinical practice in China, both as a monotherapy and in combination with recombinant human interferon alpha-2b or probiotic preparations to enhance clinical efficacy in treating cervical HPV infections and preventing progression to high-grade intraepithelial lesions.
