Baogong Zhixue Keli is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation used primarily for gynecological conditions characterized by abnormal uterine bleeding. Its main functions are to stabilize menstruation and stop bleeding, nourish yin, and clear heat. It is indicated for excessive menstrual bleeding or prolonged periods due to instability of the Chong and Ren meridians, as well as yin deficiency with blood heat. Clinical symptoms addressed include heavy or prolonged menstrual flow, dark red and thick blood with possible clots, lower back and knee soreness, dry throat and mouth, scanty tongue coating or none at all, thin rapid pulse; it is also used for functional uterine bleeding and post-intrauterine device (IUD) insertion uterine bleeding[2][3][4][5][6]. The formula contains multiple herbal ingredients including calcined oyster shell (煅牡蛎), white peony root (白芍), carbonized Chinese arborvitae leaf (侧柏炭), rehmannia root (地黄), cherokee rose fruit (金樱子), vinegar-processed bupleurum root (醋柴胡), notoginseng root (三七), agrimony herb (仙鹤草), Chinese mahogany bark (椿皮), and indigo woad leaf (大青叶)[3][5][6]. The product appears as yellow-brown to brown granules with a sweet-bitter taste[3][6].
