Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Baoshenfang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Nephrology department of Lanzhou University Second Hospital for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and diabetic nephropathy (diabetic kidney disease). As a hospital-specific preparation, it is typically administered as an oral decoction or granule. The formula is designed to protect renal function by reducing proteinuria, alleviating podocyte injury, and inhibiting the progression of renal fibrosis and inflammation. Research into its mechanism of action indicates that Baoshenfang modulates several key signaling pathways involved in renal damage, most notably by inhibiting the Transforming Growth Factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1)/Smad signaling axis and the Nuclear Factor-kappa B (NF-κB) inflammatory pathway. These actions help to suppress the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in renal cells and reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
