Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Baoyuan Paidu Wan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic renal failure (CRF) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). It is designed to tonify qi and remove toxins, which clinically translates to improving renal function and reducing levels of metabolic waste products such as blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (SCr). The formulation typically contains a combination of herbs including *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), *Rheum palmatum* (Dahuang), *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen), and *Ligusticum chuanxiong*. Its mechanism of action involves improving renal microcirculation, inhibiting inflammatory cytokines like TNF-alpha and IL-6, and suppressing the TGF-beta1 signaling pathway to delay renal fibrosis. It is commonly used in China as a supportive therapy to slow the progression of kidney disease and manage uremic symptoms.
