Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BAP Scar Gel is a medical-grade silicone gel designed for the treatment and prevention of abnormal scars, including hypertrophic and keloid scars, resulting from burns, surgery, or trauma. Developed by BAP Medical, the gel functions by creating a thin, flexible, and waterproof occlusive barrier over the scar tissue. This barrier helps to normalize trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) and maintain optimal hydration of the stratum corneum, which is critical for regulating collagen production and improving scar texture, color, and thickness. Clinical evaluations, such as those conducted at Ghent University Hospital, have compared its hydrating and occlusive performance against other silicone-based treatments and hydrating creams in patients with healed burns.
