Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Baroezet is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing pitavastatin (1 mg) and ezetimibe (10 mg) developed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical and manufactured by Ilsung IS. It is indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia. Pitavastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that suppresses cholesterol synthesis in the liver, while ezetimibe is a cholesterol absorption inhibitor that targets the Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1) transporter in the small intestine. Together, this dual mechanism of action effectively lowers LDL cholesterol levels with a reduced risk of statin-associated side effects. Baroezet is also being evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials (such as the MINI-STAR trial) for patients with minimal subclinical atherosclerosis.
