Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BaroFeron is a recombinant human interferon beta-1b biologic developed using BaroFold’s high hydrostatic pressure PreEMT protein refolding technology as a next-generation interferon therapy for multiple sclerosis. It is designed as an interferon beta-1b biosimilar/follow‑on product with an improved aggregation profile and manufacturability, while retaining interferon beta activity as an agonist of the type I interferon receptor (IFNAR) to exert immunomodulatory effects relevant to relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis. BaroFeron advanced into Phase 1 and subsequently Phase 3 clinical development for multiple sclerosis after BaroFold licensed the program to Nuron Biotech, and it represents a lifecycle-extension strategy around interferon beta-1b leveraging proprietary refolding technology.[1][3][4][5][8][9][11][14][15][16][17]
