basiliximab

Basiliximab is a recombinant chimeric (murine/human) monoclonal IgG1κ antibody that acts as an immunosuppressive agent. It specifically binds to the alpha subunit (CD25 antigen) of the interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2Rα) on activated T lymphocytes, thereby blocking IL-2-mediated activation and proliferation of these cells. This mechanism prevents the immune system from mounting a response against transplanted organs, particularly kidneys. Basiliximab is primarily indicated for prophylaxis of acute organ rejection in renal transplantation and is typically used in combination with other immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine and corticosteroids[4][5][6][7].
