Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BAT2022 is a fully human bispecific monoclonal antibody developed by Bio-Thera Solutions for the treatment and prophylaxis of COVID-19. It targets SARS-CoV-2 by simultaneously binding with high affinity to two distinct, non-overlapping epitopes on the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the viral spike protein. This dual binding competitively blocks the interaction between RBD and human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), thereby inhibiting virus entry into host cells. BAT2022 has demonstrated potent neutralizing activity against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants including wild-type, Beta, Delta, and Omicron variants with very low IC50 values in vitro. Preclinical studies showed strong prophylactic and therapeutic efficacy in mouse models by preventing weight loss and eliminating lung viral titers. Phase I clinical trials have shown that BAT2022 is well tolerated up to doses of 1500 mg with favorable pharmacokinetics and high neutralizing titers in plasma ex vivo assays. The drug holds promise both as a therapeutic for infected patients and as a prophylactic agent for high-risk populations such as healthcare workers or immunocompromised individuals.
