Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BAT2506 is a proposed biosimilar to Simponi (golimumab), a human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that targets tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), a key pro-inflammatory cytokine. By binding to TNF-α, golimumab inhibits its activity and leads to reductions in inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 1 (ICAM-1), Matrix Metalloproteinase 3 (MMP-3), and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). The reference product, Simponi, is approved for the treatment of autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and ulcerative colitis. BAT2506 has been developed by Bio-Thera Solutions as a biosimilar candidate with demonstrated equivalence in efficacy and safety compared to the originator in clinical trials[1][3][5].
