Batificaban (BAT-2094) is a small molecule glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GPIIb/IIIa) receptor antagonist developed by Bio-Thera Solutions. It is primarily indicated for antithrombotic therapy in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), including unstable angina and non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), who are undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Batificaban works by reversibly binding to the integrin alpha-IIb/beta-3 receptor on the surface of platelets, which prevents the binding of fibrinogen and other adhesive ligands. This action inhibits the final common pathway of platelet aggregation, thereby reducing the risk of thrombotic events such as stent thrombosis and periprocedural myocardial infarction. The drug is typically administered as an intravenous injection followed by an infusion during and after the cardiac procedure.
