Overview

Batiraxcept + paclitaxel is a combination of a biologic agent and a chemotherapeutic used predominantly in clinical research for platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian cancer. Batiraxcept (AVB-S6-500) is a recombinant Fc-fusion protein with high affinity for GAS6, a ligand of the AXL receptor tyrosine kinase. Batiraxcept sequesters GAS6, preventing activation of AXL signaling, which is implicated in tumor cell survival, proliferation, metastasis, and resistance to therapy. Paclitaxel is a microtubule-stabilizing chemotherapeutic agent that inhibits cell division. The principal developer of batiraxcept is Aravive. This combination was evaluated in phase 3 clinical trials for platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian cancer, but did not show overall improved efficacy compared to paclitaxel alone in the general study population, though a subset of patients with high AXL expression showed benefit[2][1][4].
