Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bavisant is an orally active, potent, brain-penetrating and highly selective antagonist of the histamine H3 receptor. It was originally developed by Johnson & Johnson for the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but clinical trials did not demonstrate significant efficacy in adults with ADHD. Bavisant has also been investigated for other indications such as excessive daytime sleepiness in Parkinson’s disease and alcoholism. Its mechanism involves antagonism of the histamine H3 receptor, which modulates neurotransmitter release and is implicated in wakefulness and cognition[1][2][3][4][5][6].
