Overview

BAX 2923 is a biosimilar monoclonal antibody product candidate developed by Baxalta in collaboration with Momenta Pharmaceuticals as a proposed biosimilar to adalimumab (Humira), the reference anti–tumor necrosis factor (TNF) therapy widely used for autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and plaque psoriasis.[5][19] As an adalimumab biosimilar, BAX 2923 is designed to closely match Humira’s structure, binding affinity, and functional activity against TNF, aiming to neutralize this pro‑inflammatory cytokine and thereby reduce inflammatory signaling in multiple immune‑mediated disorders.[19] The program was positioned within Baxalta’s immunology and autoimmune portfolio but was renamed BAX 923 and, based on available public disclosures, did not progress to commercialization.[19]
