Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bax-inhibiting peptide V5 (BIP-V5) is a cell-permeable pentapeptide (sequence: VPMLK) designed based on the Bax-binding domain of human Ku70. It acts as a cytoprotective agent by physically binding to the pro-apoptotic protein Bax (Bcl-2-associated X protein), thereby preventing its conformational activation and subsequent translocation to the outer mitochondrial membrane. By blocking mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP), BIP-V5 inhibits Bax-mediated apoptosis induced by various cellular stressors, including staurosporine, ultraviolet radiation, and chemotherapeutic agents. It is widely utilized as a research tool in vitro and in preclinical animal models of neurodegeneration, hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, and pulmonary fibrosis.
