Overview

BAY 36-7620 is a research-stage small molecule compound originally developed by Bayer. It acts as a potent, selective, and non-competitive antagonist of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGluR1/mGlu1) with inverse agonist activity. BAY 36-7620 is notable as the first described mGlu1 receptor inverse agonist. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that the compound exhibits neuroprotective and anticonvulsant effects in vivo, impairs classical conditioning and synaptic plasticity in hippocampal neurons, and shows potential in oncology research by inhibiting tumor growth and prolonging survival in mouse models of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and breast cancer.
