Overview

**BAY 60-2770** is a small molecule soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) activator developed by Bayer. It directly activates oxidized and/or heme-free sGC, increasing levels of cyclic GMP (cGMP) independent of nitric oxide (NO) availability, thus making it especially effective under conditions of oxidative stress or when NO signaling is impaired. This mechanism distinguishes sGC activators from sGC stimulators, which require the reduced (NO-sensitive) form of the sGC enzyme. Pharmacologically, BAY 60-2770 has shown preclinical efficacy in antifibrotic therapy, lowering blood pressure, improving erectile function after nerve injury, ameliorating renal fibrosis, and improving bladder function after spinal cord injury. Indications under investigation include chronic kidney disease, liver fibrosis, erectile dysfunction, and neurogenic bladder dysfunction after spinal cord injury[1][2][4][5].
