Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BAY 987443 is an investigational drug-device combination intrauterine system (IUS) developed by Bayer AG for long-acting reversible contraception. It consists of a levonorgestrel-releasing reservoir (releasing approximately 8 μg/24h) and an additional reservoir containing indomethacin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). The system is designed to provide effective contraception while utilizing the cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibiting properties of indomethacin to reduce the uterine bleeding and spotting often experienced by women during the initial months following IUS placement. It has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials (NCT03562624) comparing different indomethacin release rates against a levonorgestrel-only IUS (Jaydess) to optimize the dose-response relationship for bleeding control.
