By blocking these channels, BAY2586116 enhances the negative pressure reflex, leading to stronger activation of throat muscles during inspiration. This mechanism helps prevent narrowing or collapse of the upper airways during sleep—a key pathological factor in OSA. Clinical studies have shown that BAY2586116 can reduce OSA severity and lower next-day blood pressure in physiological responders, with no severe adverse events reported. The drug is being developed by Bayer and has reached Phase 2 clinical trials for obstructive sleep apnea[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
