Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bayoquitin is an oral atypical antipsychotic developed and marketed by the Iranian pharmaceutical company Bakhtar Bioshimi. It is a generic formulation of quetiapine, a dibenzothiazepine derivative. The drug functions as an antagonist at multiple neurotransmitter receptors, with its primary therapeutic effects mediated through antagonism of the serotonin 5-HT2A and dopamine D2 receptors. It also exhibits high affinity for histamine H1 and adrenergic alpha-1 receptors, which contributes to its sedative properties. Bayoquitin is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia and various manifestations of bipolar disorder, including acute manic episodes and bipolar depression.
