BB01

BB01 is a live, attenuated oral vaccine candidate developed by Berna Biotech (now part of Janssen/Johnson & Johnson) for the prevention of enterotoxigenic *Escherichia coli* (ETEC) infection, a primary cause of travelers' diarrhea. The vaccine consists of attenuated bacterial strains engineered to express key ETEC colonization factor antigens (CFAs) and coli surface (CS) antigens. Upon oral administration, BB01 is designed to temporarily colonize the small intestine and elicit a protective mucosal and systemic immune response against the surface antigens that ETEC uses to adhere to the intestinal wall. It has been evaluated in Phase I clinical trials to assess safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults.
