Overview

BBI-5000 is an oral small molecule drug that acts as a selective antagonist of the prostaglandin D2 receptor 2 (CRTH2). It was initially developed by Fresh Tracks Therapeutics (formerly Brickell Biotech) for the treatment of immune-mediated and skin disorders, with a primary focus on atopic dermatitis. The drug's mechanism involves blocking CRTH2, thereby inhibiting the action of prostaglandin D2 in inflammatory pathways associated with allergic and immune responses. Clinical development included phase 1 studies evaluating pharmacokinetics and safety in healthy volunteers. Development for atopic dermatitis was discontinued after phase 1 trials.
