Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BBio bOPV is a live-attenuated, bivalent oral polio vaccine (bOPV) developed by Bilthoven Biologicals, a subsidiary of the Serum Institute of India. The vaccine contains World Health Organization (WHO) approved Sabin strains of poliovirus type 1 and type 3. It is designed to provide immunity against poliomyelitis caused by these two serotypes, which are the primary targets of global eradication efforts following the eradication of type 2 poliovirus. The vaccine induces both systemic and mucosal immunity, the latter being critical for preventing the transmission of wild poliovirus in the gut. BBio bOPV has been evaluated in Phase III clinical trials to demonstrate non-inferiority in safety and immunogenicity compared to existing licensed bOPV formulations and to ensure lot-to-lot consistency.
