BBM-P002 is an adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector-based gene therapy developed by Belief BioMed (Shanghai Xinzhi BioMed) for the treatment of idiopathic Parkinson's disease. The therapy is designed to deliver a therapeutic gene cassette, specifically encoding aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC), directly into the bilateral putamen via a single-dose stereotactic injection. By increasing the local expression of AADC, BBM-P002 aims to enhance the conversion of endogenous or exogenous levodopa into dopamine within the striatum, thereby alleviating motor symptoms and reducing the need for high-dose oral medications. It is currently being evaluated in early-phase clinical trials for safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy in patients with moderate to advanced Parkinson's disease.
