BBP-711 is an orally administered small molecule inhibitor of glycolate oxidase (GO), also known as hydroxyacid oxidase 1 (HAO1). It is being developed primarily for the treatment of primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1), a rare genetic disorder characterized by excess oxalate production that can lead to kidney stones and renal impairment. The drug works by inhibiting glycolate oxidase in the liver, thereby reducing the conversion of glycolate to glyoxylate and ultimately decreasing oxalate production. This mechanism aims to prevent or reduce kidney stone formation and other complications associated with hyperoxaluria. BBP-711 has received orphan drug designation in Europe for PH1 and is also being investigated for use in recurrent kidney stone formers with elevated oxalate levels[1][2][3][5][7].
