BBT-046 is a long-acting recombinant gamma interferon (IFN-γ) analog being developed by Bolder Biotechnology for the treatment of refractory fungal infections. The molecule is engineered using site-specific PEGylation technology, which significantly extends its half-life to approximately 25 times that of natural gamma interferon. BBT-046 functions as an agonist of the gamma interferon receptor, thereby activating macrophages and other white blood cells to enhance their ability to eliminate fungal and bacterial pathogens. This long-acting formulation is designed to improve patient compliance and therapeutic outcomes by reducing the required dosing frequency from three times weekly to as infrequently as once per month, particularly for immunocompromised patients or those with chronic granulomatous disease.
