Overview

BBT-059 is a proprietary, long-acting PEGylated interleukin-11 (IL-11) analog developed using site-specific PEGylation technology. It is designed to stimulate the production of platelets, red blood cells, and neutrophils by binding and activating the interleukin 11 receptor alpha (IL-11RA) on hematopoietic cells. This mechanism promotes hematopoiesis and exhibits anti-apoptotic properties. BBT-059 has demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models as a radiation medical countermeasure for hematopoietic acute radiation syndrome (H-ARS), improving survival after lethal irradiation by accelerating recovery of multiple blood cell types. It has also shown potential for treating thrombocytopenia, myelodysplastic syndromes, bleeding disorders, and acute kidney injury associated with ischemia reperfusion injury. The drug has received FDA Orphan Drug designation for acute radiation syndrome[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
