BBT-301 is a first-in-class small molecule ion channel modulator, specifically an inhibitor of the KCa3.1 (intermediate-conductance calcium-activated potassium) channel, being developed for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Originally identified as CLP-101 by Cellion BioMed, Bridge Biotherapeutics entered into an option-to-license agreement for the compound in March 2022. By blocking KCa3.1 channels, BBT-301 aims to inhibit the activation and proliferation of fibroblasts and the production of extracellular matrix proteins, thereby slowing the progression of lung fibrosis. The collaboration between Bridge Biotherapeutics and Cellion BioMed also includes plans to explore the drug's potential in other respiratory and fibrotic indications.
