Overview

**BBV152A** is an investigational whole-virion, beta-propiolactone-inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine formulation developed by Bharat Biotech with the Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Institute of Virology. It contains 3 micrograms of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 strain NIV-2020-770 antigen produced in Vero cells and adjuvanted with Algel-IMDG, an aluminum hydroxide gel formulation containing an imidazoquinoline TLR7/8 agonist. BBV152A was evaluated in phase 1 and phase 2 studies for prevention of COVID-19. It is distinct from the marketed BBV152 formulation sold as Covaxin, which used the 6 microgram Algel-IMDG formulation.
