Overview

BC-IBU-CH-001 is a transdermal cream formulation containing 10% ibuprofen, developed by BioChemics, Inc. utilizing its proprietary VALE® (Vaso-Active Lipid Efflux) technology. This technology is designed to enhance the delivery of the active ingredient through the skin to localized tissues, such as the arthritic knee, with the goal of maximizing drug concentration in the inflamed tissue while minimizing systemic exposure. Ibuprofen is a small molecule nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, thereby reducing the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. The drug was evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial for the treatment of moderate to severe pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee.
