Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BC003 is a monoclonal antibody biosimilar of cetuximab, developed by Dragon Boat Pharmaceutical. It is designed to target the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a transmembrane protein that is frequently overexpressed in various solid tumors. By binding specifically to the extracellular domain of EGFR, BC003 competitively inhibits the binding of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and other ligands, such as transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-α). This blockade prevents the dimerization and activation of the receptor, thereby inhibiting downstream signaling pathways including the MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and JAK/STAT pathways, which are critical for tumor cell proliferation, survival, and metastasis. As a biosimilar, BC003 is intended to provide a therapeutic alternative for indications currently treated with cetuximab, such as metastatic colorectal cancer and squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
