Overview

BC02 is a proprietary compound vaccine-adjuvant system comprising BCG-derived CpG DNA, also termed BC01, and aluminum hydroxide. The CpG DNA component activates Toll-like receptor 9 to promote innate immune activation and antigen-specific cellular and humoral immune responses, while aluminum hydroxide serves as an inorganic salt adjuvant and delivery component. BC02 is used in the recombinant tuberculosis vaccine AEC/BC02, which has entered Phase 2 clinical testing for latent tuberculosis infection, and has also been evaluated preclinically with varicella-zoster virus glycoprotein E and human papillomavirus virus-like-particle antigens.
