Overview

BC2-IR700 is a lectin-photoabsorber conjugate (LPC) designed for near-infrared photoimmunotherapy (NIR-PIT) of pancreatic cancer. It consists of the recombinant lectin **rBC2LCN**, which specifically targets a fucosylated glycan epitope highly expressed on the surface of pancreatic cancer cells, conjugated to the photoabsorber **IRdye700DX** (IR700). Upon binding to the target glycan and subsequent exposure to near-infrared light, the IR700 dye induces rapid cell death through physical damage to the cell membrane. This approach leverages the high specificity of lectins for cancer-associated glycans as an alternative to protein-targeting monoclonal antibodies, potentially offering a new therapeutic strategy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
