Overview

BCD-250 is a recombinant viral vector vaccine developed by Biocad for the prevention of COVID-19. It utilizes an adeno-associated virus serotype 5 (AAV5) vector encoding the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein. The vaccine is designed to induce an immune response against SARS-CoV-2 by generating neutralizing antibodies targeting the S protein. Preclinical studies demonstrated that immunization with BCD-250 led to high titers of specific antibodies capable of neutralizing live SARS-CoV-2 virus, with antibody levels comparable or superior to those found in convalescent human serum. The vaccine was optimized for emerging variants such as the "delta" strain and was intended to be easily upgradable for new strains. Clinical development reached Phase 1/2 trials but has since been discontinued[1][3][6][8].
