Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BCD mutant FGF1 (also known as FGF1HSBCD) is an engineered recombinant human fibroblast growth factor 1 (FGF1) analogue developed by Celon Pharma in collaboration with the University of Wrocław and the University of Warmia and Mazury. It is designed as a potential therapy for type 2 diabetes and related metabolic disorders. The BCD mutant incorporates three point mutations (S116R, S17K, and L72R, designated B, C, and D respectively) that enhance its affinity for heparin and heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) while significantly reducing its mitogenic (pro-proliferative) activity. In preclinical models of type 2 diabetes, BCD mutant FGF1 demonstrated robust, sustained glucose-lowering efficacy without inducing hypoglycemia, offering a safer profile compared to wild-type FGF1.
