Overview

BCG polysaccharide is an **immunomodulator** extracted from the Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccine using a hot phenol method, consisting of polysaccharides, nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids. It has been used primarily as an injectable drug to treat immune deficiency diseases including *atopic dermatitis*, *allergic dermatitis*, *systemic lupus erythematosus*, *chronic bronchitis*, *oral lichen planus*, and *asthma*. Its mechanism involves stabilizing mast cells, blocking immunoglobulin function, reducing inflammatory mediator secretion, and enhancing production of interferon-gamma and TNF-alpha by CD4+ T cells, thus exerting anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects. It is approved in China as BCG-PSN and has demonstrated better immunotherapeutic outcomes with some novel delivery methods (e.g., microneedle patch) compared to traditional intramuscular injection[2][3][8].
