Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BCG SII is a live attenuated vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII). It is primarily used for the prevention of tuberculosis (TB), especially in infants and young children, by stimulating the body's immune response to fight *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. Additionally, it is utilized as an immunotherapy for superficial bladder cancer, specifically non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), including carcinoma in situ (CIS) and papillary tumors (stage Ta or T1). In this context, it induces a local, chronic inflammatory response within the bladder, leading to the destruction of superficial tumor cells through immune cell infiltration and direct cytotoxic effects.
