Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BCHT LAIV is a live attenuated influenza vaccine developed by Changchun BCHT Biotechnology Co. under an exclusive license from BioDiem. Based on Russian technology from the Institute of Experimental Medicine, the vaccine contains cold-adapted, temperature-sensitive master donor strains. These strains are designed to replicate effectively in the cooler environment of the nasal mucosa (approximately 33°C) but are restricted from replicating in the warmer temperatures of the lower respiratory tract. This localized replication induces a comprehensive immune response, including mucosal IgA, cellular T-cell, and systemic IgG responses, providing protection against seasonal and pandemic influenza without causing disease. The vaccine is administered intranasally via a spray and is manufactured using traditional egg-based methods.
