Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BCI-332 is a novel, highly selective small molecule inhibitor targeting the Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) receptor, with specific potency against the internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD) mutated form [EP383]. Built on the chemical backbone of the anti-HIV drug tenofovir, BCI-332 was developed by Hirundo Biosciences (formerly B.C.I. Pharma) to provide superior FLT3 specificity and reduced off-target effects compared to traditional kinase inhibitors like quizartinib. In preclinical studies conducted in collaboration with the University of Bergen, BCI-332 demonstrated potent anti-leukemic activity and low toxicity in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) models, inducing apoptosis in FLT3-ITD mutated cells.
