Bcl-xl_42 is a peptide fragment derived from the B-cell lymphoma extra large (Bcl-xl) protein, an anti-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family that is frequently upregulated in various malignancies, including prostate cancer. As a cancer vaccine antigen, Bcl-xl_42 is designed to stimulate the immune system to recognize and eliminate cancer cells that overexpress the Bcl-xl protein. Specifically, it aims to induce a cytotoxic CD8+ T-cell response against tumor cells presenting Bcl-xl-derived epitopes. In clinical development, Bcl-xl_42 is typically formulated with the CAF09b adjuvant, a cationic liposome-based system (DDA-MMG1) containing the toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) agonist Poly(I:C), which enhances the activation of the immune system. This therapeutic approach has been primarily investigated in patients with hormone-sensitive prostate cancer and lymph node metastases.
