Bclx-vMO is an experimental antisense oligonucleotide designed to target the mRNA of the anti-apoptotic protein BCL-XL (also known as BCL2-like 1 or BCL2L1). By binding to the pre-mRNA of BCL-XL, this morpholino oligonucleotide (vMO) inhibits its proper splicing and expression, thereby reducing levels of the functional anti-apoptotic protein in cells. The reduction of BCL-XL sensitizes cancer cells to apoptosis, particularly in tumors that are dependent on this protein for survival and resistance to chemotherapy. This approach is being explored as a targeted therapy for various cancers where overexpression of BCL-XL contributes to tumorigenesis and drug resistance[3][4]. The vMO (vivo-morpholino) chemistry allows for improved delivery into cells compared with standard morpholinos.
