Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BCM863 is a novel, non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist (MRA) being developed by Shanghai YunSheng YanXin Biotechnology for the treatment of primary hypertension. By selectively binding to and inhibiting the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR), BCM863 prevents the binding of aldosterone, a hormone that promotes sodium retention and potassium excretion in the kidneys. This inhibition leads to a reduction in blood volume and systemic blood pressure. As a non-steroidal MRA, BCM863 is designed to offer superior selectivity for the mineralocorticoid receptor compared to traditional steroidal MRAs like spironolactone, potentially reducing the risk of hormonal side effects such as gynecomastia and providing a more favorable safety profile regarding hyperkalemia. The drug is currently undergoing Phase 2 clinical evaluation in China to assess its efficacy and safety in patients with primary hypertension.
