Overview

BCMA CAR-T cell immunotherapy is an investigational chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA, also known as TNFRSF17). BCMA is a cell surface receptor highly expressed on malignant plasma cells in multiple myeloma, making it an ideal therapeutic target. The therapy involves genetically engineering a patient's autologous T cells to express a CAR that specifically recognizes and binds to BCMA, leading to T-cell activation and the targeted destruction of myeloma cells. Qilu Hospital of Shandong University (Qingdao) is evaluating this cell therapy in a clinical study in China for the treatment of patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, utilizing lentiviral vectors supplied by Shanghai Yake Biotech.
