Overview

BCMA-CD19 CAR-T is an investigational compound chimeric antigen receptor (cCAR) T-cell therapy developed by Peking University People's Hospital for the treatment of multiple refractory autoimmune diseases. This dual-targeting biologic utilizes autologous T-cells engineered to express receptors for both CD19, which is expressed on B cells, and B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA), which is expressed on plasma cells and long-lived plasma cells. By targeting both populations, the therapy aims to achieve a more comprehensive depletion of the B-cell lineage, including the pathogenic autoantibody-producing plasma cells that often evade standard B-cell depleting therapies like rituximab. Clinical evaluation in Phase 2 trials has focused on patients with severe, refractory conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis, demonstrating the potential to induce clinical remission and eliminate circulating autoantibodies.
