Overview

BCMA-directed CAR-T cell therapy is a type of immunotherapy that involves genetically modifying a patient's own T cells to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) that specifically targets B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA). BCMA is a protein found on the surface of multiple myeloma cells and other plasma cells. Upon infusion, these modified CAR-T cells recognize and bind to BCMA-expressing cells, leading to their destruction. This therapy has shown significant efficacy in treating relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma and is also being investigated for non-oncology plasma cell-related diseases like generalized myasthenia gravis.
