BCX10013

BCX10013 is an investigational, oral small molecule inhibitor of human complement factor D. It works by blocking the activation of the alternative pathway of the complement system, a part of innate immunity involved in fighting infections and clearing damaged cells. By inhibiting factor D, BCX10013 suppresses this pathway and is being developed as a potential treatment for multiple complement-mediated diseases. The drug is currently under clinical investigation by BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, with primary indications including paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and renal complement-mediated diseases such as IgA nephropathy. Early clinical data show that BCX10013 achieves rapid, sustained suppression of the alternative pathway with once-daily oral dosing and has demonstrated safety and tolerability in healthy volunteers[1][2][3][4][5][6].
